Mike and I got to St. Jean Sat. Mar.23rd at about 4:00 pm. We took a train from Barcelona to Pamplona at 9:30 am then took a bus from Pamplona to St Jean. We checked into our hotel and then went to the Pilgrim center to get my credentials. We then walked the city for a while, stopped at the church of Our Lady and prayed for all in need. We then went to dinner and had a terrific steak and a great time

Woke up early and had breakfast and started out hiking to Roncevalles at 8:30 and immediately got lost for the first mile. Got back

The hike was 35 km and was all uphill to 4300′ and at times thought I would not make it but Mike told me a cold beer was just around the corner as I ran out of water.

Received your lst day account and it sounds and looks pretty exciting. I’ll have to get a map of the area. Beautiful Barcelona.

Hi Dan
I did not know if you were Dan O or Dan K. Figured it was you Oak. Like my daily beer after the walk. Give me fluids and ready for a map

Joe,
Barcelona looks just like O imagined. The trip is a perfect combination of tough stuff and good stuff so far. Good food is always a motivator in my book. I am so envious and it’s day 1.

Joe – I am sure that the two of you have set a record for getting lost immediately on the trail! I suspect that that scenario will be repeated a few more times over the coming days 🙂 Glad you finally started your adventure and wishing you a Buen Camino!
